FAQ

What is Your Friend Jane about?

Your Friend Jane is a mental health and personal growth blog! I write about everything: struggling with mental health, discovering who you are and who you want to be, falling in and out of love, achieving your dreams, going through friend drama and more.

When did you start Your Friend Jane?

I started Your Friend Jane in October 2016, when I was a freshman in college.

Why did you start blogging about mental health?

I’ve loved to write ever since I was a kid. I’d write and draw my own “novels” (they were maybe five pages long) about talking sea animals, an elf who travels to space and a girl who loses her dog named Toto (totally unrelated to a beloved story about a girl wearing red slippers).

As I got older, I started to think more about my career, and although I had phases where I wanted to be a pastry chef, teacher or marine biologist, I always came back to writing — it was the one constant in my life that gave me the most passion and joy.

When I started my freshman year of college, I started to struggle a lot with my mental health. Although I had had low periods before, this felt different and, quite frankly, I thought I was alone in what I was going through.

That’s when I started Your Friend Jane!

I had been thinking about starting a blog for awhile, as I realized in high school that I really enjoyed having deep conversations with my friends. At first, Your Friend Jane started as a platform for me to share my thoughts/vent and kind of just yell into the void — I didn’t think people were listening.

Fast forward to today, and Your Friend Jane has transformed into many things: an online journal, advice column and a place of comfort for people to realize they’re not alone.

What is Your Story, and how can I submit an article?

Your Story is a series, where you have the opportunity to submit your personal stories of mental health and/or personal growth for a chance to be featured on Your Friend Jane! Learn more about Your Story here.

Is blogging your full-time job?

I work full time as a digital marketing specialist and freelance writer. I’m also in the midst of writing my first fiction book!
